At-home Break Week

After our big trip in February, we knew April break would be more of a staycation kind of break. We were all recovering from colds, so last week was a welcome week of easy mornings and flexible plans. However, we also know that a whole week without plans doesn't always make for a peaceful house, so we tried to have at least one fun thing to do each day (in addition to hanging out with Frankie, of course!).

Noah did some woodworking on Monday with Matt and Stuart, the instructor from his woodworking class. Noah LOVED it, and he spent a lot of time during the week in his "workshop" building a wooden lunchbox. Stuart is going to let us borrow some other model projects so Noah can continue woodworking now that the class has ended.

Evie was really insistent about wanting to play Disc Golf as a family over break, and I'm glad she was! We went to the course behind EMS and had a really fun time. Evie had been playing in PE and she thought we'd all enjoy it.

Tuesday was a yucky day weather-wise, with heavy, wet snow (and a couple power outages!). Luckily, the kids had a play date with their friends for most of the day, so that helped us all navigate the bad weather without cabin fever!

Matt took the kids to Metro Rock so I could get a little work done one day, and they all had a great time. Evie likes to go to the top of the tall walls, while Noah is a little more cautious, but he is getting braver each time he goes.

We celebrated Earth Day with a great hike on Mount Philo with our friend Erin, and then the kids got to meet her sweet baby girl, Eloise! After all that fresh air, we ended the day with a trip to the movie theatre (first time in a movie theatre in 2 years!) to see Bad Guys with a group of Noah's friends, and then we went for pizza afterward.

This looked like a toilet, so Noah was pretending to...ahem...!

We ended the break in the same way we began - celebrating Easter! There was a Spring Scavenger hunt at the town park in the morning, and then we had Grandpa Tom's infamous Easter egg hunt in the afternoon (and evening!). The giant feet and the bicycle wheel returned from past years, and they were some of the favorite clues among all the kids. We traversed the neighborhood, went to the elementary school, and I even had to reach out a second story window for an egg! The creativity of this egg hunt always keeps us on our toes.

It was a doodle party! Frankie (right) and Lily (middle) look like twins!

Nobody was excited to wake up to an alarm and head back to routine yesterday, but Evie and I had a really fun ending to the day. We had the opportunity to tour Beta Technologies with her Girl Scouts troop as part of their Mechanical Engineering badge. Beta has built an electric-powered aircraft, and they are doing some really incredible innovation. It was inspiring to see their work first-hand! Kudos to the owners, who are also EHS alumni.
