Stick Season has arrived!

This post is going to carry us from Fall into "Stick Season" (aka, November).  The first part of last week was pretty nice, and we enjoyed being outside, carving pumpkins, and trick-or-treating in pretty balmy conditions.

Friends!

Great haul!

The boys were pretty happy with their collection

Halloween was nearly 70 degrees and windy, before an intense rain and wind storm blew in (thankfully we were able to do some trick-or-treating before the worst of the storm arrived!).  School was closed on Friday because of all the flooding, washed out roads and power outages, and then to cap off all the misery, we changed the clocks back on Saturday night and it now gets dark before 5:00pm.  November is tough!

Crazy flooding on Towers Road

We happened upon this crazy scene where a car had driven over a section where the road was closed.  It turns out the road was washed out beneath the water.  Scary!

To ward off the seasonal depression that November can bring, we had a really fun weekend!  On Saturday, we ventured downtown and went to Advance Music, out to lunch, and then to ECHO.  Fun for adults and kiddos!  Sunday, we also had a special event.  We have enjoyed listening to the "But Why?" podcasts from VPR for a couple of years - it's a podcast that answers questions from kids on a variety of topics, and even as adults, we always learn some cool stuff when we listen.  They were putting on a live show at the VPR studios on Sunday, and we got tickets to go be in the audience.  The topic was Owls, and they answered all sorts of questions about owls, birds, and they had live owls at the show, as well as "The Bird Diva" who helped to answer the questions.  Then we got to meet Jane Lindholm, the producer of the show afterward.  It was such a cool experience!
