Evie's First Communion

The May celebrations have begun, and our first celebration was Evie's First Communion on Sunday.  She was decked out in a very special dress that was made by Grandma Karen's grandmother 55 years ago.  Grandma Karen and Aunt Boo Boo also wore the dress for their First Communion, and now Evie had the privilege of carrying on the tradition.  We were so proud of Evie, for working hard in her classes to prepare for this sacrament, and also for understanding why it is so special.  After so many years of struggling through mass with toddlers and young children, it was reassuring to know that our efforts were not in vain.  Our families were there to celebrate, and Evie's godmother Ally and her family flew up from Washington DC to celebrate with us, too.  The whole thing made me a little misty-eyed!

Noah was feeling left out since Evie got so many gifts, so Evie gave Noah an early birthday present!

One gift Evie received was an American Girl doll First Communion dress, so she could match her doll for the day.

The rest of the week was cloudy, cool, and rainy.  We are all itching for Spring to arrive for more than a day at a time!  We helped out with Green-Up Day, went to Touch-a-Truck, and enjoyed some time swimming with Ally, Matt and Caroline while they were in town.  

A big milestone that got lost in the busyness of the weekend was our 20th dating anniversary!  May 4th marked the day that we made it official to become "more than friends", and the rest is history.

There was a lot about Evie this week, but Noah's day-to-day imaginative play continues to keep me entertained - from Legos to Superheroes to sports.  He has big plans for our days together!

A couple other nice family moments from the week - Matt and Zeke got out for a quick fly-fishing trip to the river, and Matt and the kids stopped by to visit Nana Mil while they were out biking.  We are always grateful to have family nearby!
