Last week was rather dreary, and we were all feeling impatient for Spring. Saturday was our day of redemption! It was warm, sunny, and the kids were out playing from 7:30am until bedtime. There is a magical quality to that first spring day after a long winter, and we embraced it. An interesting statistic is that it was our first day since October 11th that the temperature reached 70 degrees in Burlington. That was a loooong 6 months!
Our magical Spring day included a bike ride to story time with a local author, John Churchman. He writes the Sweet Pea and Friends children's books about the animals on his farm, with beautiful pictures of the animals and Vermont scenery. The best part of the story time was the animals he brought along - a lamb, 3 sheep dogs, and a bunny. Evie was lucky to be chosen to hold the little lamb named Moonbeam during the story time, and I thought her heart was going to leap out of her chest with excitement. It was a very special time.
After story time, we biked over to a painting workshop where the kids got to paint flower pots, and then we traveled on for our first visit of the year to Sweet Scoops for ice cream (for lunch). When we got home, Matt had returned from fishing, and the kids begged him to go for another bike ride, this time to the park. There was even some time left to play with friends outside when they got back, and we ended the day with some yummy burgers on the grill. Bring on Spring, we are ready!!

I also want to share a story of kindness from the weekend. Our neighbor is a middle-schooler, and she stopped by on Sunday to ask if Evie might be interested in her old bike. We were happy to buy the bike from her family, but her parents told us that she had the idea to give the bike to Evie "for zero dollars." This gesture meant so much to us, and especially to Evie. Now Evie has been brainstorming kind things she can do for some younger friends - kindness is contagious!
