School Ends and Summer Begins!

The final week of school was a busy one, filled with celebrations, concerts, field trips, birthday parties, and lots of ice cream.  Usually we are pretty sad to say goodbye to teachers at the end of the year, but this year didn't feel so bad.  Evie will be staying with her same team for 8th grade, and both kids will be staying at their same schools next year, so it's a year without too many big changes (phew!).

It's my last year of coordinating the Four Winds nature program!

Spare Time birthday celebration - fun for kids and parents!

Right after school ended, we had a family weekend of celebrating Nana Mil, with her burial, as well as several more cheerful gatherings.  Being with family is what she loved the most, and it was really nice to have everyone together.  There were even a few games of Bingo thrown in there, so we know she was smiling down on all of us!

Father's Day finished out our weekend with some pickleball, stacking wood (classic Zehnacker family "fun!"), and a nice dinner.

The first week of summer was slated to be some low-key time for all of us.  No camps, just free time to sleep in, go to the pool, and see what we felt like doing.  I woke up Monday AM feeling exhausted, which was no surprise after the busy schedule we had been keeping since the beginning of May.  I quickly realized I was more than just tired, when I laid down on the couch and didn't get up until 2pm.  On a whim, I took a Covid test, and was shocked that it was positive!  Matt and the kids kept their distance, and I was so thankful for how they all stepped up and took care of me, as well as everything around the house.  The kids entertained themselves a lot, Evie cooked a bunch of yummy food, and the kids even found games to play with me from a distance.  They got some pool time in during the extreme heat wave, and we counted our blessings for air conditioning!  Somehow, miraculously, Matt and the kids didn't catch it, despite close to 20 family members from the Millie weekend festivities falling ill.  After a long 5 days of illness, I'm finally feeling better, rebuilding my energy, and ready to get on to enjoying summer!

Noah and Matt have continued to keep up the busy pace of Little League All-Stars, and Noah's team won their first game on Saturday.  It was an exciting comeback win, coming behind 11-3 to winning 12-11 in the final inning!  And, I was well enough to go watch it.  More action to come this week - good luck, boys!
