Camping!

Last week was our first camp-free week for the kids, and we embraced the open days.  I can tell the kids have matured, because in past years, an unscheduled week was a recipe for endless bickering, but now things are mostly peaceful.  We went to Metro Rock with friends, celebrated Grandpa Zeke's birthday, we had a family photo session, and Evie even cooked dinner for us one night!

Happy Birthday to Grandpa Zeke!  Perfect night for some ice cream!

Looking handsome for family photos!

Fun with neighborhood friends

Evie's delicious dinner!  Stir fry with crispy spring rolls.  I highly recommend the Raddish Kids cooking kits for kids!

It was a good week to have a low-key schedule, because we were also packing for our first family tent camping adventure!  Our friends invited us along, and we decided it was worth a try, and thanks to the generosity of everyone who loaned us their camping equipment, we were able to pull it off.  Before we left, it felt like a LOT of packing and preparing, but I'm happy to say that it was all worth it!  We went to Branbury State Park on Lake Dunmore, which was nostalgic for me, since we camped there when I was a kid.  Camping with other families was a great plan, because the kids had a blast with the other kids, and that made it easy and relaxing for the adults, too!  We swam, played at the beach, hiked to a waterfall and swam in some very chilly river pools.  It was a great weekend of living simply, but it also felt good to come home to a hot shower and a comfortable bed on Sunday night.  We are hoping this can become a new yearly tradition!

I was quite proud of my camping breakfast - pancakes and sausage with VT blueberries!

Jack and Noah loved exploring the woods around the campsites

Hike #1 on Saturday. All the parents were worried the kids were going to fall off the cliff!
