The Finish Line

We have reached two important Finish Lines this week: the end of the school year, and the end of Covid restrictions in Vermont, now that 80% of the eligible population is vaccinated!  I don't think the significance of that second milestone has fully sunken in yet.  We are very proud of our state, our kids, their teachers, and everyone who worked so hard to keep the kids safely going to school for the whole year during the pandemic.  We didn't have high expectations for the school year, and we had a lot of concerns about how the kids would manage to wear a mask all day, whether they would stay healthy, and how restricted their school experiences would be.  Thankfully, we all stayed healthy, and (knock on wood) we did not have to get Covid tested or go through any quarantine periods, and the kids thrived at school.  Both ended up having wonderful teachers and classmates, and if anything, they seemed to bond even more with their classroom community this year.  School was one of the only ways that they could spend time with their peers during the winter months, so it really was a lifeline this year.

It's hard to say goodbye to two VERY special teachers this year!

The kids had move-up day on Friday and met their new teachers and classmates for next year.  Evie is really happy with her friends and her teacher...Noah's placement isn't great.  He does have one good friend in his class, but that's about it for positives.  This situation has sucked up a lot of my energy and emotions over the past few days, and it is really making me feel sad and helpless that we can't fix this one for him.

On to happier subjects...we have had lots of swimming, ice cream, outdoor time, sports, and puppy snuggles (I swear Frankie knows I've been feeling down).  We made a trip to St. Anne's Shrine on Sunday to celebrate our good friend Father Brian's 25th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood, as well as the 50th anniversary for two other Edmundite priests.  It is such a beautiful, peaceful place, and we enjoyed a little time playing on the shores of Lake Champlain before we headed back home.  Frankie was such a good girl being home while we were gone for a good part of the day, too!
