We have switched gears from Thanksgiving to getting festive for Christmas. On a typical year, we usually wait a bit to decorate, but this year, the decorations came out right after Thanksgiving! We all need some hope and joy right now. It has been fun to see so many extra houses decorated with Christmas lights this year, and it really does lift our spirits on those gray and dark days.

The kids put an end to Thanksgiving by busting up the giant chocolate turkey that we were gifted (it's ridiculous!), and then they excitedly welcomed Advent with their Advent calendars and by building gingerbread houses. Gingerbread houses are not my favorite, because the house always collapses, and someone ends up crying, so Matt assisted with that one!

We were able to continue our family Christmas Tree outing (with a few Covid modifications) over the weekend, so now it is really looking and smelling like Christmas in our house. The only disappointment was the lack of snow for tree hunting, but that didn't stop the fun. The kids loved having some time with their cousins and grandparents, who we have been missing a lot!

Frankie turned 5 months old yesterday, and we have been enjoying several off-leash hikes lately. Now that she's getting bigger, she is needing more exercise, and this is a great way to tire her out. Unfortunately, yesterday we had a very scary moment when she ran out onto some thin ice and fell into a pond about 6-8 feet from shore. I was terrified, but luckily my friend was more clear-headed, and was able to use a tree limb to reach Frankie and bring her close enough to grab her collar and bring her to shore. I felt like I was in a bad dream as I watched Frankie struggling in the icy water. This wake-up call is making us hug our kids and our fluffy pup extra tight right now. As hard as things are with Covid restrictions, we are so grateful to have each other. Frankie seemed unfazed by the entire episode, and she was playing so crazily when she got home that she lost another puppy tooth!
