Family Hike and the Red Efts

It's hard to believe that we have turned the page to June.  We are in the final two weeks of school, but the weather has kept us in denial that summer is approaching so quickly.  We had a pretty normal week, which felt great after the crazy month of May.

Noah had one final birthday celebration at school, and then both kids wanted to model their birthday crowns from preschool - Evie still has hers from 3 years ago!

 

During a brief sunny morning last week, Noah and I cleaned out the egress window, had a picnic, played basketball, got too hot and went for a dip in the pool, and then met Evie for ice cream after school.  It feels like we are experiencing Spring in little bursts when the weather cooperates, but we will take what we can get at this point.

We also finally made it out for a family hike!  Matt and I were reminiscing about how different our family has looked on all these hikes - first it was just us with Roscoe when he was a crazy young dog, then I was pregnant, then we had a baby in a carrier, then we had one kid hiking, and now both kids hike on their own and Roscoe trots along peacefully.  They carried their own hydration packs, too!  It was so fun to hike with them and notice all the details of nature that they see - especially the 27 red efts  (those little red lizards) that we spotted while walking on the trail.

The rain returned on Sunday, so Evie and I embarked on a little project in the kitchen making a fruit pizza.  She has been very into baking and creating things in the kitchen lately, and her favorite part of the project was cutting the fruit and arranging it artistically on the crust.  I have to say it was delicious, too!

Noah had his 5-year-old checkup with Dr. Hale yesterday, and he has grown well over the past year!  He is now 43.5 pounds (70th percentile) and 44.5 inches (81st percentile).

All this growing combined with a head cold last week has made Noah tired and a little ornery, but thankfully he has given into some snooze time on the couch.  I'm jealous!
