Hard Goodbyes and Welcome to Summer!

As I looked through our pictures from the last week, I felt such a tremendous range of emotions - happy, sad, proud, stressed, exhausted, frustrated, excited, grateful.  We made it through all the end of school festivities with a few tears, but also a lot of smiles and a gratitude for our wonderful school communities.  By Friday evening, we all hit the wall of exhaustion from the emotion and busy-ness of the final school week, so we hunkered in and watched a movie to celebrate the start of summer.  This was the point when Evie started to realize the finality of moving on to a new school, and she got really sad about not going to EES anymore.  For Noah, I'm not sure the finality has sunk in, but he is continuing to talk about kindergarten with excitement.  The sadness hit Matt during their final drive to school together, and it hit me when I went to pick him up for the final time at the playground of his sweet little preschool.

For Evie, the sadness hit me when the 2nd graders walked down the halls of the school for the final time, giving high fives to all the teachers, students, and parents, and then we had to give her awesome teacher a final goodbye hug.

Lila and Evie - a great friendship that formed here at EES

Evie and Sam - another great pair!

Some of the great kids from Evie's 2nd grade class.  We will miss this group!

There wasn't a lot of time to mope, because we got up and enjoyed the summer reading program kickoff at the library on Saturday morning, followed by a family graduation party that afternoon and Father's Day festivities on Sunday.

The family graduation procession and song - such a hilarious Zehnacker tradition!

Sunday evening, we were excited to welcome our Colorado relatives to VT, and we have been having lots of fun with the cousins all together since then!  This has been a really fun way to start off the kids' summer vacation!
