Holiday fun, fun, fun!

Well, hello, Blog Readers! It's been a few weeks, and like most people, we got pretty consumed with celebrating the holidays and enjoying some family time. Christmas was really wonderful - the kids were so excited, we got to spend some nice time with all of our family that lives nearby, the kids spent DAYS building Legos and playing with their new toys, and we indulged in lots of good food. We were even graced with a beautiful fresh blanket of snow on Christmas Eve to enhance the ambiance.

Leading up to Christmas, Roscoe's behavior reached a new low when he jumped up on the counter and ate a full container of chocolate peppermint cookies...and then had some serious digestive upset, stepped in the result, and tracked it all over the house. But, now we can laugh at the "cookie jail" we constructed in the kitchen to be sure we didn't lose any more yummy baked goods! Roscoe's behavior has gotten better with the help of some new meds and a special dog food, thankfully.

After the cookie crisis, we thought we were in the clear, but Christmas Eve began with a small crisis of its own. Our garage door spring broke with both of our cars stuck inside, and the door was too heavy to lift. Panic began to strike as I thought about our carefully laid plans to get everything done before getting Evie to church for her pageant at 2:30. It was our own little Christmas miracle that the garage door repair shop was open on Christmas Eve, and they had workers in Jericho that were able to head right to our house and get things fixed, and they were the friendliest guys who came and saved the day.

We started our Christmas celebration with Evie's first Christmas pageant at church. She was such a proud little angel, and the pageant always touches my heart, with these sweet little ones reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas.

We enjoyed a relaxing evening after church at Aunt Pea's house, then went home and left our cookies and milk for Santa and headed to bed. Evie awoke at 4:55am with a bad dream, and declared she didn't think she'd go back to sleep. Sooooo...Christmas Day was punctuated by some sleep deprivation and mood swings, but mostly lots of joy and excitement. The kids were SO excited that Santa came - he brought a big Lego set for Noah and a giant dry erase board for Evie, and lots of fun treats for all of us in our stockings. The celebrating continued with gifts and brunch at Aunt Pea's, then dinner and gifts with Grandma Karen in the evening. After a few days to recover, we had Christmas with Grandpa Tom and Sharon, and then the Zehnacker extended family Christmas gathering. We also managed to catch up with several dear friends that were in town for the holidays. It was awesome, but PHEW. All that celebrating left us needing a long winter's nap!

Thankfully, last week's return to reality was a short 3-day week, and the return to routine schedules, exercise and eating habits have been a welcome change. Here's to a new year and many new adventures ahead!
