After a couple busy weeks, we are now back to reality (and blogging). Evie had a great week of art camp at her elementary school, and then we set off for our annual family vacation at Shadow Lake for the 4th of July week. The packing is always mind-boggling and we doubt whether vacations are worth the stress...and then we arrive at camp. It's quiet, peaceful, and we get lots of help with the kids. As soon as we got there, Evie ran off to pick wild strawberries and Noah started playing his outdoor "camp drums" while we unloaded the car.
The weather wasn't the best, but even though there was rain, there was also enough dry weather for plenty of outdoor time. For a new tradition, we went to see the opening night of Circus Smirkus in Greensboro, which is only about 15 minutes from camp. What an amazingly talented group of performers! Evie has already declared that she wants to join them someday.

On the cloudy, cool days, we did some fishing and had bonfires, read books and played games, and on the warmer days, we swam, kayaked and went tubing. There was no shortage of food or drink, either! 11 people, 3 dogs, 1 bathroom and no cell service for 9 days is always an adventure with plenty of shenanigans and lots of laughs!
