Heavy hearts

This past week, the St. Michael's community suffered an enormous loss when our beloved Father Mike passed away suddenly on Thursday.  He was an extraordinary man that shaped our faith with his gifted preaching and storytelling, and we can't imagine what St. Mike's will be like without him.  Writing a blog post about my kids seems so trivial in light of the larger things going on, yet I am also reminded how precious each day is.

So, here are some of our ordinary extraordinary moments from the week...

We made a visit to Aunt Judy and Uncle Dave's farm to get our pumpkins, and of course the kids asked if they could visit the animals, too.  We are lucky to live just down the road so we get to visit often.

Matt took Evie and Colby to Lego Night at school, and a great time was had by both kids!

We enjoyed a beautiful Saturday walk in the woods to soak in the foliage before it's gone.  The kids both walked the whole way, so we didn't go far, but it was still fun.

Poor Roscoe...nothing serious is going on, but he has a sore on his foot that he won't leave alone, so he has to wear the "cone of shame" until it heals.  He is an absolute klutz with the cone on and it adds to the chaos of our household!

I got a crazy idea that we should bring our ping-pong table out and see if the kids were interested in playing.  Sadly, it's been packed away since we finished the basement 3 years ago.  It made for a fun Saturday night!

Evie is very proud that she's able to read some simple books, and Noah is happy to listen.  I have a feeling we are embarking on an awesome new phase!

Despite a very emotional mass at St. Mike's on Sunday, the kids had some big smiles as they helped Matt pack up the drums after mass.
