Our first-born baby turned 3 years old on Saturday. THREE. Each year, Matt and I usually reminisce about the whole labor and delivery, but this year I couldn't bring myself to talk about it much. It's a little too close to reality for me! Evie was so excited about her birthday this year - she woke up to a new trampoline from mommy and daddy, she helped bake cupcakes, then we had a fun family party to celebrate her special day.

For the "baby book" - here are 3-year-old milestones for Evie: She is very into princesses, make-believe, puzzles, books, music, and being outside. She has a lot of interest and curiosity about babies, thanks to Bitty Baby and the impending arrival of her baby brother. She is learning her letters and numbers, can count to twenty with a little help (somehow eleventeen always ends up in there, though!), and she is starting to be able to write the letters of her name. She also is very observant about letters and numbers in our day-to-day activities - for example, she'll shout out "twenty!" when we're driving if she spots that number on the speedometer in the car. We are noticing the typical three-year-old limit testing and battles, but trying to be patient and consistent with our parenting and hoping this phase will pass soon.

She had her 3-year-old checkup and we are happy to report that she continues to be healthy and strong, and her hearing and vision were both great. Here are her 3-year-old stats:
Height: 37.5 inches (64th %)
Weight: 30 pounds (47th %)

Rounding out the busy weekend, we celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday. The highlight of my day was Evie sleeping in until 8:30, then climbing into bed, giving me a huge hug, and saying "Happy Mother's Day Mommy!" in her sleepy morning voice as she excitedly delivered her card to me. That sums up why this whole pregnancy thing is worth it for me!

Our second baby is growing quickly, too! At my latest checkup, my midwife estimated him to be about 7.5 pounds, and Baby Center estimates him to be the length of a leek. I'm feeling surprisingly good, so I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad one. Is he going to stay in for another month, or is this my last hurrah before he arrives? Will Wednesday's full moon induce labor like the old wives tale suggests? It is starting to get tricky to buy groceries and plan meals for the week, not knowing if we'll be here to eat them! The kindness and generosity of our friends and family continues to help us get through this waiting period - dinner invitations, text messages, packages of adorable baby things, borrowed maternity clothes, and help with Evie have all been a tremendous help!
For those of you who wonder how my belly compares to last time around, I decided to do a side-by-side of my 38-week belly from Evie and baby #2...pretty similar!
We are doing our best to maintain our normal schedule, both for us and Evie, but with only three work days remaining for me, it's getting harder and harder. As I was cleaning out my work email, I came across this great poem that my funny and creative sister wrote when she was about to have her third baby several years ago...it seems so appropriate for how I'm feeling these days, too!
Big
Boodah Belly
Covering
my middle
Can't
even laugh
Without
a bit of piddle
Round
and rotund
Rather
basketballish
Ain't
nothin' left of me
One
could consider smallish
Better
be a cutie
Coming
down the chute
Any
more pressure
And
you'll hear another toot
Baby Guzowski
Will
we meet you soon?
Maybe
in a week?
Or
tomorrow afternoon?
The
waiting is incessant
The
peeing never stops
Contractions
left and right
Has
the baby dropped?
I
can't wait to hold you
(And
to drink a glass of wine!)
When
this boodah is long gone....
VICTORY
WILL BE MINE!
