Happy Thanksgiving! We had an unseasonably beautiful day on Thursday, so we went for a little hike at the Riggens' house before we feasted. It's Evie's favorite place to hike, because she gets to see her cousins and play on the slide when we're done!
Personally, I was happy to have an excuse to spend a little alone time in the kitchen making pies for Thanksgiving!
We had a nice dinner at Grandpa Tom's house, and he had lots of fun things for Evie to do. They tried to break the wishbone, but Evie was very puzzled by it! She really loved lounging in the beanbag chair after dinner, though!
Another highlight was the Play-doh that Grandpa got for her. Better for her to try it over his carpet than ours (ha ha!). She was intrigued, and again, so were Mommy and Daddy. Play-doh is pretty fun stuff.
Unfortunately, Evie was not feeling very good last week. She had a fever for a couple of days and ended up getting a cold, but she was a tough girl and kept playing and sleeping well. When she was feeling especially bad, she just wanted to read books and snuggle, especially with Roscoe.
Despite Evie feeling so-so, we trekked to Church Street for the Tree Lighting on Friday. It was pretty packed, and it ended up raining, so we went in a few stores to stay dry. Evie was under the watch of her cousins, and I got this reassuring sense than any future teenage boyfriends are going to have to answer to these two guys.

As is typical of Vermont, you never know what you'll get for weather from one week to another. Last week I was out walking without a jacket, and yesterday, we had snow. It was our first real accumulation, and Evie was so excited to go out and play in the snow! In fact, we went out to play in the snow twice in one day, until I finally couldn't stand being out in the cold anymore (Evie would have stayed out all day). I'm still trying to decide which is more of a pain - slathering sunscreen all over a squirmy kid in the summer or putting on all the gear to play in the snow in winter.
We've been reading this book a lot, so it was fun to see her put two and two together as we went "crunch, crunch, crunch" through the snow!
We finally had Evie's 18-month checkup last week, and surprise, surprise, she's still tall and skinny! Here are the stats:
- Weight: 21 lbs. 3 oz. (9th%)
- Height: 33 3/4 inches (94th%)
- Head circumference: 74th%
I have to be a bragging mom for a minute (sorry!)...the doctor said that her language development is about a year ahead of where they'd expect her to be! He said that typically at this age, kids have between 3 and 50 words, and they don't expect them to put 2 words together until they're two years old, and 3 words together at three years old. One of my favorite Evie sentences of the week was, "Aunt Boo-Boo drink wine." :-)
