It was another busy week with lots of reasons to celebrate. Matt and I still celebrate the day we started dating - May 4, 1999. Now that it has been 23 years, we are starting to think we might be...OLD?! No, no. But truly, we are grateful to have had all these years with each other and for this beautiful family we have built! Since our only free time these days is during the day when the kids are at school, we enjoyed a lunchtime pickleball date together to celebrate our date-a-versarie.

All the usual extra-curricular activities continued during the week, and then on Saturday, Noah celebrated his First Communion. It was a really special day for him, and he was so proud to get dressed up in his suit and experience this sacrament in our church. The purity and innocence of those sweet little kids walking down the aisle got me misty-eyed. It was a beautiful day, and we are so proud of Noah!

Mother's Day was Sunday, but things didn't quite go according to plan. Noah woke up in the middle of the night, and he had thrown up all over his bed, floor, etc. Let me tell you, I've cleaned a lot of dog messes, and all kids of other messes, but kid puke is THE WORST. Matt and I made a stellar team, and within 30 minutes, the bed was cleaned, changed, carpet was steam cleaned, Noah was cleaned up and we were all back in bed. Matt gave me the most generous Mother's Day gift - I was still able to go do all the celebrating on Sunday, and he stayed home with the sick kid. While I missed being all together, I was grateful to be able to play my flute at church, go to brunch with Evie and my mom, and have a fun family happy hour at Paula's.

And, the next big milestone is celebrating Evie's 11th birthday today! This year has brought back so many memories of the year she was born, because she was actually born on a Tuesday. I went into labor on Mother's Day night (after feeling so discouraged that she hadn't arrived in time for Mother's Day!), labored all day Monday, and then she was born at 12:35am on Tuesday morning.

We are so proud of Evie, for her kind and generous heart, for her determined spirit, and for the creativity and enthusiasm she brings to the family. She is always coming up with a new game, activity, recipe, or craft project for us. She is sensitive, and is quick to cheer me up with a sweet note or piece of art that she made if I'm having a tough day. She is a good friend, a great sister, and an amazing daughter. She loves animals, especially sea turtles, and of course, Frankie! Lest you think she is perfect, I do wish she'd clean her room a little more often, tone down the periodic sassy attitude, and quit procrastinating at bedtime. :-) But the whole package of Evie is a pretty spectacular one, and we are blessed to have her for a daughter. Happy 11th Birthday to our sweet girl! We love you more and more every day, Evie!
