School Year Sadness

Oh hey!  Here we are...at home, just like everyone else.  Last week had its ups and downs, but the biggest blow was finding out that our kids will not return to their schools for the remainder of the school year.  We all had a good cry over it, and there are still moments of sadness as the days go on and we think about everything they will miss this Spring.  These long days of being at home remind me of when we had a newborn at home, when we had to focus on the basics of eating, sleeping, and taking care of our family.  The days blurred together, and they were exhausting, but we got through.  We can do hard things, and we know that this home isolation, too, shall pass. Every day, we are praying for the health and safety of our family and friends!

The kids have generally been doing a great job with their school work, and it has helped to give some structure to the week.  Some days require a little more encouragement to stay on task, but we are taking a fairly relaxed approach, and thankfully, the schools are as well.

Silly girl - I think her brain was tired from doing so much math!

Sanity savers for this week included: biking, hiking, Zoom video chats, yummy food, at-home Jazzercise classes, lots of walks, and family movie night.  These bright moments during the week gave our moods a boost and helped us to feel normal during a very strange time.

Gotta love that smile

Jazzercise at home has been great, but I miss my in-person classes!

Evie has been doing some Jazzercise with me too!

Thursday was the 15th anniversary of when Matt and I got engaged, so we visited Eagle Mountain for a hike and reminisced about getting engaged there many years ago.  It was a great outing!
The kids spent a ton of time investigating a rotten log

Little events have provided big excitement.  One such event was a tree getting removed behind our house.  It provided hours of entertainment!
Notice the worker up in the tree cutting down limbs!

Noah had to re-enact the tree operation, of course!
Saturday, we went on a bike adventure.  First, we stopped to visit Nana Mil, and since she can't have visitors inside her building, we stood outside her window and talked on the phone with her.  From there, we biked to Grandma and Grandpa's house to say hello from a safe distance.  It made us so happy to see a few of our special people!

A safe-distanced game of wiffle ball with Grandpa. Life felt normal for a little bit!

Back at home, we have been well-nourished!
Evie has been baking up a storm!
Homemade pizza night

However, I get credit for these maple frosted donuts.  They were a delicious weekend treat!

Grandpa dropped off Frosty's for all of us for a surprise treat one evening.  It brought a smile to everyone's face!

Noah worked hard to get the whole living room set up for movie night.  Everyone had their own cozy spot with popcorn and a name tag.

We have been enjoying our Happy Hour.  Cheers!
