Ode to a Coonhound

Yesterday was a very sad day for our family, because we had to say goodbye to Roscoe.  He had been declining for a while, until he reached a point where his digestive system had shut down, and his body had become very weak.  We knew it was time to say goodbye and let him go, but it wasn't easy.  

We adopted Roscoe in 2006, a few months after we had gotten married, and we quickly learned that he had some pretty intense separation anxiety that left him barking all day when we were at work.  With the help of a dog trainer, doggie daycare, video cameras, family, and rearranged work schedules, we found ways to keep him more peaceful when we couldn't be home, but we could never walk out the door without making a plan for him.  Suffice it to say, when Evie arrived 5 years later, the adjustment to having an actual kid was a breeze!  Despite his challenges, Roscoe was an awesome big brother to Evie and Noah, and his gentle nature helped teach them of the unconditional love of a pet.  He was happiest with his nose to the ground (although he also enjoyed his La-Z-Boy chair!), and we like to think that he is finally enjoying running free and following his nose wherever it leads him.  Rest in peace, our dear old friend.  Thank you for being a part of our family.
