I can't believe that Christmas is just over a week away! Yikes! I was feeling pretty good about my shopping and to-do-list, but now it feels like the clock is ticking. Lots to do in these coming days, as I'm sure many others are feeling! However, the holiday spirit is starting to take hold, particularly thanks to a few of our favorite festivities over the weekend. We went to the Train Hop on Friday night, which the kids enjoyed, and we ended the evening with a drive to enjoy some Christmas lights (including a house with synchronized lights/music - amazing!). Saturday night, we went to a Christmas caroling outing with friends. There is nothing better than being surrounded by voices singing together!

Sunday really capped off my gratitude for the holiday season. Evie and I went to help some of the ladies in the family make Slovak nut cakes. My grandmother has made these as long as I can remember, and her mother made them before that. Now that she is 92, she oversees the process as the rest of us learn. From the big wooden board to the old rolling pin that has been used for these cakes every year, there is a lot of history in this process, and we had four generations together on Sunday to keep the tradition going. Of course Evie got bored after 15 minutes and just wanted to eat chocolate chips, but oh well!

In addition to the weekend, there were a few other festive moments during the week, as well as a few less-than-festive meltdowns from kids who had too much sugar and stayed up too late!
