This post is dedicated to our newly-turned 10-year-old! Celebrating the kids' birthdays makes me so happy, but I always get a little bit sad about the passage of time. Since it's our family blog, I'll go ahead and brag about all the wonderful qualities that stand out about Evie at age 10: She is kind, thoughtful, generous, smart, hard-working, and loves to do art, Irish Dance and play violin. She loves everything about school. She will reach out to a classmate who is feeling left out, and she will stand up if something isn't right. She challenges us, but she also brings us more joy than we could have imagined possible. We feel incredibly blessed to be her parents. Keep shining, baby girl!
This year was Evie's "Golden Birthday", meaning that she turned 10 years old on the 10th of May. She insisted that this called for some extra celebrating, and quite frankly, it was easy to indulge her requests after a year of minimal celebrations due to the pandemic. Her enthusiasm was contagious for days leading up to her birthday!
Evie began her birthday with ribbons decorating her bedroom door (10), and she opened her (10) gifts from us before school. Her big request this year was the American Girl doll of the year, Kira, which we got for her. After a breakfast of cinnamon buns, she went to school for a half day, then I picked her up at noon, and we went to lunch and shopped for some birthday balloons. That evening, we had a family "garage party" with pizza, silly string, cupcakes, and lots of fun with cousins. She ended the evening with a scooter ride with Aunt Pea and the crew, and we watched her birthday video.
The celebration continued over the weekend with a Paint & Sip party for Evie and her friends. I wish I could have bottled up the joyful sound of the girls chatting and laughing as they did their paintings! We all had a great time sipping, painting, snacking and celebrating Evie with love and happiness for her birthday. After the party, we took a short family walk on Church Street, and we all agreed that this was her best birthday ever!
